Stunning outfits and eager punters were out in force for the one and only Roma Cup. The 51st Roma Cup filled Bassett Park with colour and excitement, with more than 7000 visitors attending. Highlights of the race day included the locally owned and trained racehorse, Oggi, winning the Cup. Ridden by jockey Hannah English, Oggi had a confusing start but eventually made the home stretch cleanly.

Longreach girl Jacquetta Arnold won the title of best dressed after being a runner up for the past four years. In 40-degree heat, guests handled the hot weather by relaxing in the air conditioned marquees accompanied by great music and a glass of bubbly. The Roma Races Carnival is one of the biggest and most exciting race meetings in western Queensland. Almost half of the race-goers camp on the grounds or stay in town with family and friends for what has become a legendary annual event.
