Ben-Vestey-and-John-HaighBritish Polo Day made its Australian debut with the Garangula Spring Polo tournament at the private estate of the Schwarzenbach family near Harden in the NSW South-West Slopes. British Polo Day began life three years ago when British Cavalry friends Ed Olver and Tom Hudson invented the concept as a celebration of the sport of polo and British luxury heritage. Since then the founders have partnered with more than 30 British luxury brands to stage 35 events in countries as diverse as Abu Dhabi, India, Morocco, Mexico and Russia. The events have raised more than US$1.2 million for charities all over the world and the Australian event added US$48,500 to the coffers of the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence and Head Injury through Sport. A Royal Salute Scotch whisky and Tattinger Champagne reception, pitchside afternoon tea and a game of Brompton bicycle polo added to the British accent of the 10-day tournament. At the end of play, Guy Schwarzenbach led his home Garangula team to a stunning 8-6 victory over Ellerston.
